Unlicensed cancer, diabetes medicine worth 6.6 crores seized in Kolkata
Digha, a popular coastal destination in West Bengal, will host the Sweet Festival from January 7 to 9, 2024, at the World Bengal Convention Hall. The event, which will run for three days, is set to feature over 6,000 sweet vendors from across West Bengal and neighboring states, offering a wide range of traditional Bengali sweets. The festival aims to celebrate the region’s rich culinary heritage, with an emphasis on sweets such as rosogolla, sandesh, chomchom, and other local delicacies.
The festival will host more than 50 stalls, where vendors will display not only sweets but also the ingredients, tools, and equipment used in their production. This includes machines for sweet-making and raw materials like sugar, jaggery, and traditional flavoring agents. The event is designed to give visitors a comprehensive experience of the sweet-making process, with demonstrations and the opportunity to purchase products directly from the makers.
The festival will begin with a grand procession on January 7, marking the official start of the event. Minister Manas Ranjan Bhunia and former Minister Akhil Giri will attend the festival on behalf of the state government, as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not be present. Digha, which sees a significant number of tourists during the December to January period, is expected to experience an increase in footfall due to the festival. The event is being organized with the aim of promoting local tourism, boosting the regional economy, and creating networking opportunities for sweet vendors from across the state and beyond.
